Laura Bishop

Laura Bishop is a composer, arranger, performer, and conductor. She studied piano from the age of 4, double bass in high school, and piano accordion after university. She graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music in Composition in 2003.

She has conducted her works on the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall and Sydney Town Hall stages, composed for and performed with ARIA award winning ensemble Mara! & the Martenitsa Choir both nationally and internationally, including at WOMAD, sung with the London Bulgarian Choir for their winning entry in the BBC Radio Choir of the Year Competition, and performed with Indo Pacific drumming group The Rhythm Hunters to 20,000 capacity crowds at the Woodford Festival NYE Amphitheatre.

She has contributed her solo vocals to animated short The Rose of Turaida, arranged & performed for multimedia project The Lumiphonic Creature Choir which has toured internationally and supported Grammy award winning artist Moby in New York, and worked in the music departments of 50 films with orchestration & music preparation credits such as Moulin Rouge, Babe, and Australia.

With Balkan/jazz ensemble Chaika she composes, sings, plays percussion, accordion & piano. She has also written, recorded and toured an album of her own original songs with her sister Susie. Her collective works have received airplay on ABC Classic Drive, Radio National, 2MBS FM and Triple J.

She teaches piano, conducts several choirs, and runs her own business ‘Folk Music Around the World’, performing solo shows at schools.
