In light of our cancelled Bundanoon Concert due to bushfire crisis, we will be running a fundraising house concert in Engadine, Sutherland Shire of Sydney on SUN JAN 12th instead. CLICK HERE FOR EVENT
Being a travelling band, we have met and experienced many wonderful places and people in Australia. Especially up and down the East Coast of Australia. Many people know that the bushfires (wildfires) of 2019/20 have been the largest and most devastating in our history and we are only just at the beginning of Summer. So many of our friends, fans, musical and rural communities have been affected, houses and landscapes completely destroyed. As news emerges of the destruction, communities are also banding together to raise funds, lend hands, hearts, homes and more to help how they can. We will be using this page to share pieces of news, fund raising campaigns, concerts etc.
Rebuild Upper Murray
Josh from Cudgewa has been doing incredible things for his community, while his house and property has been completely destroyed he is doing what he can to bring the community together in fund raising efforts and more. Josh’s house was to be host to a concert of ours in March and he and his team made the gorgeous video of Chaika playing at Cobargo Folk Festival. See his Go Fund Me page below:
Hearth Ground – Yia & Nick
Yia and Nick have a property badly damaged by the Gospers Mountain fires. For years they ran the Tantric Turtle (folks at the National Folk Festival will remember them well!) Yia and Nick have been wonderful supporters of Chaika’s music over the years. Now it’s time to help them out.
Cobargo Bushfire Recovery Fund
We have such fond memories of times at Cobargo Folk Festival and have met some beautiful friends in the Cobargo region over the years. One of the most devastated location thus far on the South Coast of NSW, they will need all the help and generosity they can get.
The Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund has been set up by community representatives to fund projects of benefit to the whole community. It is run by community volunteers and funds will be allocated to projects in consultation with the community.
The fund is an initiative of the Cobargo Show Society Inc, The Cobargo Folk Festival and the Yuin Folk Club Inc, The Bowerbird Opportunity Shop, the Cobargo Cooperative Society Ltd and Bega Valley Shire community representatives. It will be managed transparently and fully audited.
Justin in Mallacoota
Justin Brady is a lovely person and musician that we met at the Cygnet Folk Festival and is from Mallacoota. He spoke fondly of his town and house which has now been destroyed by fires. We hope that many folks can help our friend rebuild part of his life.
