“Like a gust of wind ushering in a new season of possibilities … Arrow, as the title suggests, offered listeners a new direction in Australian Folk music, an innovative blend of beautifully crafted pieces.”
– What’s on Sydney
The latest from Chaika –
Our January Tour is simply beautiful, connecting with many of our wonderful communities along the East Coast of Australia. Due to bushfires in the Southern Highland, our Bundanoon concert has been replaced with a fire fundraising house concert in Engadine, in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire. Check out details on our GIG page. We would also LOVE to see you coming along to the Illawarra Folk Festival that we will be playing at Jan 16-19. The whole of Australia’s economy is struggling because of bushfires. Small business, touring musicians, festivals, rural towns. The best we can do is go out and support events and buy from small local business! Illawarra Folk Festival is the perfect place for that!
We’ll also be touring NSW south coast, VIC, Tassie and all the inbetweens during March/April. Keep a look out for those dates soon!
In not so wonderful news, many know of the devastating bushfires sweeping Australia – especially the East Coast of NSW down into Victoria. Being part of folk community of Australia means we have a lot of connection to people and places that are being destroyed in unprecedented conditions. We will be using our website to post up links where you can help by donating to communities we know affected by the fires. Go to our ‘Friends in the Fires’ tab and stay connected.
Our latest release ARROW has been ARIA nominated for Best World Music Album for 2019! It is a real honour to be in the top five with such excellent company such as Joseph Tawadros and Zela Margossian. Head over to bandcamp to purchase or download it.
