Johan Delin – ARIA nominated new directions in australian folk

Johan Delin

Johan Delin

Johan Delin, born and raised in Sweden, studied music at Sheffield University in the UK. He arrived in Sydney in 2011 and very soon after joined several bands as a bassist. Jazz has been a part of his life since the early teens. Through his years of study in the UK he played in different jazz constellations from duos through to big bands, including quartet ‘Le Clique’ where he performed with Susie Bishop.

His influences range from Charles Mingus, Ray Brown to Avishai Cohen and the interest in different time signatures and grooves has been part of his life since early on through influences such as The Meters and The Headhunters. Because of this he fits well within Chaika where he forms a vital part of the rhythm section.
